Rollin’ Revival Roadshow a Blast!
Aug 4th, 2008 by John
Doug Pagitt, Mark Scandrette, Tony Jones
Tony Jones as Dr. A. B. Hawthorne, the professor, singing “I’ll Fly Away” on the sidewalk of the church.
In a combination of humorous 1908 revivalist flare with current, compelling stories of the life-changing power of the big Gospel of the kingdom of God, Tony Jones, Doug Pagitt and Mark Scandrette, along with Kiwi Dave, brought “The Church Basement Roadshow” to Hudsonville, MI. Jeremy Bouma snagged the Show, hosted by Fellowship Evangelical Covenant Church, for the west Michigan area.
Each man got “into character”: Tony Jones as the professor, Dr. Anthony Bower Hawthorne; Doug Pagitt as “Big Brother Duke” Arnold; and Mark Scandrette as Allen Lockwood Withee peddling his “Balm of Gilead” healing oil. Jeremy Bouma also got into character, along with Andy and Lisa.
This 30th session of the two hour “revival” sped along with rousing singing, intriguing 1908 trivia, powerful stories and eye-catching visuals. The heart of the Show was each man reading a segment from his latest book and telling something of his spiritual journey.
The last engagement of the Show is tonight in Indianapolis, IN. However, the Show has been invited to do a tour of Europe.
How would I summarize the Show? These three provocative leaders present the wonder of the Gospel of the Kingdom of God liberated from the reductionistic versions of traditional evangelicalism. The passion and creativity of these men was directed to a very sharp point: the God who visited this planet in Jesus of Nazareth. We meet “Truth with dirt under his fingernails.”

I wish you could have been here, too. You have a blessed week,

Hi John. I’m one of them Canadians that journeyed down to GR for the show. Thanks so much for the hospitality that you and the folks at Covenant showed us. It was a blast of a weekend.
David,
I remember meeting you and your friend. We were honored that you’d make the effort. I know you both had a great chat with Jeremy Bouma at Randy’s house. Visit us again if you’re ever in the area. God bless you!
Peace.
John
