Out of Print: A Friend’s Comments
Nov 18th, 2007 by John
A friend recently read my novel Out of Print. He then sent me his comments and I was very encouraged by them. Below is what he wrote…
”But about the book… I’m not an avid pleasure reader. I tend only to read when mandated by school, work or church. I started reading Out of Print on the plane ride back to NYC on Monday, and found myself emotionally upset about the idea of the Bible disappearing. The Bible is something that I take for granted everyday (and not in a cliche Christian kind of way), I mean, I literally don’t read the Bible very much at all (regardless of the fact that I “should”). Out of Print’s first effect was to make me reconsider how much I take the Bible for granted. Out of Print’s second effect was a deep appreciation for the Christ-centered people that God has noticeably placed in my life over the past several years. Bible neglect aside, I have felt the Word of God spoken from the heart’s of so many people in my life. When I was unwilling to read the Bible, God was willing to bring people into my life who were God’s Word.
“Without getting even more theological (with my limited understanding), I wanted to let you know that I loved your book. I even read the epilogue, afterword, and acknowledgments. Truly a first for me
“Oh! And I have to mention that I excitedly (another first) grabbed my Bible and read Psalm 27 after I read it in Out of Print. So, thank you for making me excited about the Bible, and about my ability to be the spoken Bible to others.
“Happy Thanksgiving,”
