Living in Lutsk- Day 1
Dec 29th, 2008 by John
What is the difference between Grand Rapids, MI and Lutsk, Ukraine?
Weather-wise, nothing. It is cold here with biting winds.
But it is warm in Sasha and Natasha’s doma not only temperature wise but relationally. Jeremy Bouma and I going to serve the brothers and sisters under Sasha’s direction. Because Christmas here is a week and not a day, many people are off work for the week. We will be meeting with small groups of people to listen and serve as best we can. Jeremy will be with a huge group of youth at Fimiam Church on New Year’s Eve. It will be an almost-all-nighter. I will be with many of the congregation of Calvary Church.
The exchange rate has typically been 5:1, that is, 5 Grevna to 1 dollar. Now it is 7.60:1. At one point recently it was 10:1…double what it’s been. Point: the international economic slump has hit Ukraine hard. The average Ukrainian is by no means wealthy. It is hard financially on most of the people. Pray for the churches and their leaders.
More later. Das vedanya!
