Pain Kissed Me

Pain Kissed Me
by
John W Frye
Pain kissed me,
And by the hand led me
To that awful place
Where reality dwells.
Pain embraced me
And held me tightly
Until fantasy comforts
Released their grip
And slinked silently away.
Pain took me
Along the lonely path
Into the valley of many voices
Tuned to sing deeper songs.
To sing the songs of the Lamb
That was slain…
Who was slain.

Deadly Truth

Deadly Truth
by
John W Frye
My ears heard right words,
Truth was told.
Yet my heart was blasted open,
My spirit ducked for cover.
The voice convinced of rightness
Felt so very wrong to me.
What if truth spoken without love
Is the greatest lie of all?
What if certainty offered hatefully
Is quicksand after all?
Did Jesus once dismiss the Bible quoter

Deadly Zealous

Zealous Servant
by
John W Frye

Just a cup of cold water
Smashed into my face.
The zealous servant left me,

And blood and water mixed
Gushing from my mouth.
Friends, zeal without love
Mimics the devil’s way.

Broken Bread

Broken Bread
by
John W Frye

“Let us break bread together,” they said.
I ate their broken promises instead.

Their ‘bread of life’ sticks in my throat.
Will I choke to death on this liars’ loaf?

Can unbroken lives eat the broken bread?

At his table the Broken Host serves,
Healing aroma, taste of life is in his bread.

Heartbeats of God

Heartbeats of God
by
John W. Frye

I climbed into the lap of God.

Leaning tightly against him,
I listened to his heart.

I heard blood,

crying from the ground
of ancient places.
Lonely, empty faces;
wailing Palestinian mothers
and frightened African babies.   God’s heartbeats made me uncomfortable.I pulled away and looked into his eyes.

I saw his tears
did not quench the fire.

The Eternal Child

The Eternal Child
by
John W Frye
I am
a one year old child
thrown from a bridge at night
into cold, deep water
because daddy had a fight
with mommy.
I am
a two year old child
sitting in the bloody dust of Kenya
next to my mommy, hacked to pieces
because of senseless war.
I am
a three year old child
sitting alone in a cold, concrete apartment
hearing loud [...]
